Safari Introduction
Samburu National Reserve is a rugged and remote park located in northern Kenya. It is part of a larger ecosystem that includes Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves. Samburu is renowned for its dramatic landscapes featuring riverine forests, open savannahs, and acacia woodlands that stretch along the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River, which is the lifeline of the park.

Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Morning
Departure from Nairobi: Early morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or airport. Drive north towards Samburu National Reserve (approximately 5-6 hours).
Stop at the Equator: Brief stop at the equator for a photo opportunity and explanation of the Coriolis effect.
Arrival in Samburu: Check-in at your lodge or tented camp, and enjoy lunch while taking in views of the stunning landscape.
Afternoon
Afternoon Game Drive: Head out for your first game drive, where you’ll spot Samburu’s special “Big Five” (Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk), as well as elephants, lions, leopards, and more.
Sundowners: Enjoy drinks as the sun sets over the Ewaso Nyiro River.
Dinner & Overnight
At your selected Samburu accommodation (Samburu Sopa Lodge, Ashnil Samburu, or similar).
Day 2: Full Day in Samburu National Reserve
Morning:
Sunrise Game Drive: Start the day with an early morning game drive to catch predators like lions and leopards in action.
Return for Breakfast: After your drive, return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast.
Cultural Visit to Samburu Village: Visit a local Samburu village to learn about the tribe’s nomadic way of life, culture, and traditional dances.
Afternoon
Leisure Time: Enjoy lunch and some free time at the lodge, relaxing by the pool or taking in the serene atmosphere.
Afternoon Game Drive: Another game drive in the late afternoon, with opportunities to spot even more wildlife. Watch for crocodiles and hippos near the river.
Dinner & Overnight
Return to your lodge or camp for a delicious dinner under the stars.
Day 3: Samburu to Nairobi
Morning:
Final Game Drive: One last chance to explore the reserve before breakfast. Take in the sights and sounds of the park in the early morning light.
Breakfast and Departure: After breakfast, check out and start the journey back to Nairobi.
Afternoon:
Drive to Nairobi: Arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or airport, marking the end of your 3-day Samburu adventure.
